A construction worker must have completed general construction induction training β commonly known as the White Card β before being permitted to commence work on a construction site. This is a mandatory requirement across Australia.
If you have never worked in the construction industry before, or you have lost your White Card, this is the course for you.
This course introduces you to (or refreshes) the current health and safety legislative requirements, personal awareness, and the basic principles of risk management for working in the construction industry β so you can work safely and prevent injury or harm to yourself and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies, and correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE).
The training package does not specify entry requirements for this unit; however, V&I Swift Skill Institute applies the following entry requirements:
Training and assessment is delivered face-to-face with a mixture of practical and theoretical components catering to a wide variety of learning styles. Assessment of this unit consists of three tasks:
A series of multiple choice and short answer written questions.
A series of short answer oral questions with your assessor.
Demonstrating the correct fitting of personal protective equipment (PPE).
A required PPE kit is provided by the institute to every student:
Participants who demonstrate competence to the required standard will receive a Statement of Attainment in CPCWHS1001 β Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry, recognised Australia-wide.

If you believe you have already gained the skills and experience for this unit, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) by providing evidence of previous training, employment experience or other relevant skills. Successful applications may reduce training time β though completing the full training is recommended for best understanding. Contact us before enrolment to discuss RPL.
